Here are some tips that I believe could reduce your carbon footprint and could also save you some money:
Keep your tires properly inflated
- Correct tire pressure leads to lower rolling resistance, therefore, it improves fuel efficiency. In the USA alone 1.24 billion gallons of fuel per year can be saved by proper tire pressure.
- It improves your tire lifespan and leads to less tire waste.
- Less carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere.
- Run your dishwasher and washing machines only with full loads. This will save hundreds of pounds of carbon dioxide each year.
- This also saves you on energy costs and fresh water resources.
- I am sure that you all know how much pollution your car emits. I know that there are catalytic converters that help stop car pollution but when these converters are warming up, and not capturing harmful emissions, a lot of harmful gases are released into the atmosphere.
- It is important to try do all your errands at once, to save time and the planet.
- 2.5 million plastic bottles are thrown away every hour in the USA. This contributes significantly to swelling landfills.
- Imaging if a person got their daily water form only plastic bottles, that would surely add up and that would be wasteful. Bottled water is definitely not good for our planet.

The issue of bottled raised on this post is so true and it always amazes me how much people prefer using this even in developed countries where the quality of tap water is as good. It is my hope that the legislation being debated by some states in the USA to have a surcharge / tax for bottled water will discourage this wasteful use of money which is also damaging to the environment.
